M3 DS History

The M3 team were one of the first teams in the DS card scene. Back then, they made 1st generation slot-2 devices. They were also one of the first to make slot-1 DS cards, which were much simpler to use and have better capacity and function. The M3 team were involved in creation of the original R4DS. This explains why the design of the M3 DS Real and the R4DS are pretty similar in the beginning.

Unlike the original R4DS card where improvements came at a snail's pace, the M3 DS Real had undergone significant upgrades throughout its life helping it go from strength to strength. After major improvements to the M3 DS Real software functions, it was available for sale in Europe at the end of 2007. By the end of 2008, the M3 DS had moved the micro SD slot from the top of the card to the side of the card. This was also accompanied by a big improvement in the software such as the Full Real Time Save function which means that data will be saved in real time so even if the user accidentally turned off the DS, they can still resume after turning it back on.

Copies / Fakes

The M3 DS Real, which was itself a copy / spin-off from the original R4DS card, also suffered from other fake / copies of it. Unlike some of the R4 copies which actually improve on the original R4DS (The M3 DS Real is one example), the M3 DS Real copies are all cheap inferior imitation trying to pass themselves off as the real thing. This is however quite easy to spot as the Real M3 DS uses icon style menus that are similar to the R4 while the fake M3 DS uses the list style menu similar to that of the DSTT. The Real M3 DS will also list the correct website on the packaging www.M3adapter.com whereas the fake ones list www.M3adaptes.com (Notice the sneaky change of the R to S).

Why Do You Not Sell the M3 DS?

NDS-Gear had sold the M3 DS Real for several months but discontinued it due to several reasons.

First, the M3 DS Real's price had been steadily increasing to a point that it was twice as expensive then any other DS card on the market. Even the M3i Zero costs more than its fellow DSi competitors. At the time, new and very good DS cards such as the EDGE DS had started populating the market. As the Edge DS was much cheaper and just as good as the M3 DS Real, the popularity of the EDGE DS skyrocketed while that of the M3 DS Real begin to fall. Due to this, we did not see the point of continuing with the M3 DS Real.
