R4DSThe R4 SDHC has been out in the market for many years now and has proven to be a worthy sucessor to the R4DS. When the R4DS team split up a few years ago, some of the members of the R4DS team continue to work for the R4 SDHC. This help improve the stability and program of the R4 SDHC. As the R4DS no longer have a developmental team, the once glorious R4DS is now suffering from a lack of updates to its firmware although the R4DS hardware itself still remains one of the best in the market. The lack of a developmental team and the inability of the R4DS to support micro SDHC format (4GB micro SDHC and above) has left the once glorious R4DS to fall down from its spot as the best available DS Card. Although still a pretty decent DS Card at a very cheap price, the R4DS is definitely no longer the way to the future as many other DS Card such as the R4 SDHC continue to improve. One of the main advantage of the R4 SDHC over the R4DS is that the R4 SDHC is able to support micro SDHC format where as the R4DS is only able to support micro SD format. This means that the R4 SDHC has the potential to have a memory capacity of up to 32GB while the R4DS can only take a memory capacity of up to 2GB. This allow the R4 SDHC to be able to take up more homebrew games, videos and other files compare to the R4DS, while still having enough memory space for the R4 software to function. Another advantage of the R4 SDHC is that the R4 SDHC still have a fully functioning developmental team where as the R4DS developmental team is no longer active. The R4 SDHC software is still continously updated to ensure continous smooth gameplay and also addition of new features where as the R4DS software has not been updated for several months and the R4DS software is at a standstill. The R4 SDHC software is a continuation of the R4DS software so it is save to say that the R4 SDHC currently has a better firmware than the R4DS.
Using R4DSWith the release of the new DSi cards such as the R4i, Acekard 2i and EZFlash Vi, the price of DS Cards such as the R4 SDHC and the R4DS has also dropped, making the R4 SDHC and R4DS very cheap. This drop in price should also be another reason to choose the R4 SDHC over the R4DS. The R4DS was once a mighty DS Card but now the R4DS has become just a very cheap decent DS Card for casual gamers. Those that like the R4DS and wish to continue using it should seriously consider obtaining the R4 SDHC as: The R4 SDHC firmware is an updated version of the R4DS firmware; The R4DS is no longer releasing new version of the R4DS firmware where as the R4 SDHC firmware is still being updated; The R4 SDHC can take micro SDHC format which means that it can take micro SD up to the size of 32GB while the R4DS can only take micro SD up to 2GB. The R4 SDHC, a worthy sucessor to continue the great tradition set by the R4DS. Both the R4 SDHC and the R4DS are not DSi compatible and are only able to work on the Nintendo DS / Nintendo DS Lite. If you have a Nintendo DSi, please get one if the DSi compatible cards. If you have the Nintendo DS or Ds Lite, the R4 SDHC is a good choice with many new features while maintaining the performance of the R4DS. |
